AHRDO, an Afghan human rights organisation, has conducted semi-structured interviews with 50 returnees and deportees from Europe in four regional centres of Afghanistan – Balkh, Kabul, Herat and Nangarhar – as well as with. Research interviews 20 civil society and human rights activists and Afghan government officials about the situation of returnees and deportees. One of the findings: 78% of the interviewees said they left their country because they feared to be killed, injured or because of persecution – not for economic reasons in the first place.
