This statement outlines the privacy policy of the Afghanistan Analysts Network (AAN) as it pertains to our website (in English, Dari and Pashto). The policy does not cover AAN’s presence on social media platforms, where the terms and conditions and privacy policies of those platforms are applicable.
This privacy policy sets out the basis for how AAN processes information that identifies you or enables us to contact you, which you have provided when subscribing to our updates or when contacting us in other ways. The privacy policy complies with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that aims to strengthen data protection.
Please read the following to understand how we treat the personal information you provide us. Please contact us via our general email [email protected] should you feel we are not abiding by this policy.
We welcome you to use our website, which can be accessed and browsed without the need to submit any personal information or contact details.
AAN collects your personal information and contact details for the following purposes:
Updates: Your personal information (name and affiliation) and contact details (email) will be required when subscribing to our updates (newsletter, dispatches, reports etc.) via our website. However, this data will only be used to enable us to send out the updates that you have subscribed to. The fact that you subscribe to our updates will also feature in our subscribers’ statistical analysis. You can withdraw your consent at any time, either by sending us an email at [email protected] or by clicking the ‘unsubscribe’ button at the end of our emails.
Recruitment: The information you provide when seeking research or employment opportunities with AAN will only be used in relation to the opportunity itself. AAN does, however, maintain the right to re-contact you should future opportunities arise which may be of interest to you.
Donations: Should you wish to make a donation to AAN, we will need your name, billing address, email address and donation amount. We will also need to know whether the donation is being made in honour of someone, and, if applicable, the reason for the donation. This information will only be used so that you are able make the donation and to enable us to have an overview of donations for institutional transparency and audit purposes. (See also the Donate section below.)
Offline Submissions: We may also collect information provided by you offline (for example through written correspondence or when you provide us with your business card). This information may be used to contact you to suggest that you subscribe to AAN updates, request another meeting with you or invite you to events.

Please note that should you want to access the personal data that you have submitted to us, update your email or change your preferences you can always do so by contacting us at [email protected]. Should you want to unsubscribe from the AAN email you can do it through contacting [email protected].
Our policy may change in the future. We encourage you to review this page periodically to understand our policy regarding our collection and use of your personal information. Each revision will be clearly shown by updating this policy’s revision dates (see below).
