Please read the following to understand how we treat the personal information you provide us. Please contact us via our general email [email protected] should you feel we are not abiding by this policy.
We welcome you to use our website, which can be accessed and browsed without the need to submit any personal information or contact details.
AAN collects your personal information and contact details for the following purposes:
Updates: Your personal information (name and affiliation) and contact details (email) will be required when subscribing to our updates (newsletter, dispatches, reports etc.) via our website. However, this data will only be used to enable us to send out the updates that you have subscribed to. The fact that you subscribe to our updates will also feature in our subscribers’ statistical analysis. You can withdraw your consent at any time, either by sending us an email at [email protected] or by clicking the ‘unsubscribe’ button at the end of our emails.
Recruitment: The information you provide when seeking research or employment opportunities with AAN will only be used in relation to the opportunity itself. AAN does, however, maintain the right to re-contact you should future opportunities arise which may be of interest to you.
Donations: Should you wish to make a donation to AAN, we will need your name, billing address, email address and donation amount. We will also need to know whether the donation is being made in honour of someone, and, if applicable, the reason for the donation. This information will only be used so that you are able make the donation and to enable us to have an overview of donations for institutional transparency and audit purposes. (See also the Donate section below.)
Offline Submissions: We may also collect information provided by you offline (for example through written correspondence or when you provide us with your business card). This information may be used to contact you to suggest that you subscribe to AAN updates, request another meeting with you or invite you to events.
AAN may automatically collect the following information when you visit our website:
Technical information: This may include the operating system and platform, browser type and version.
Details of your visits to the website, including but not limited to: every ‘HTTP Query’ your browser client sent to our server(s); the full Uniform Resource Locators (URL) clickstream to, through and from the website (including date and time); page response times, download errors, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks and mouse-overs), methods used to browse away from the page, traffic data, location data, weblogs and other communication data. This information does not identify you.
You may refuse to accept cookies by activating the setting on your browser, which allows you to refuse the cookies setting. Instructions on how to do so will vary from browser to browser but you can find out more at www.aboutcookies.org. Some features and functionality may be lost if you choose to disable cookies. You will also have to adjust the cookie settings for each browser and device that you use to visit our website.
Our website may contain links to other sites that may use cookie technology. We do not have access to, or control over, these cookies.
Non-disclosure of your personal data or contact details: AAN will not share the information that you have provided us with any other organisation, company or person, unless specifically mentioned above or if required to do so by law (for example, in response to a subpoena, in response to a court order or other legal obligation, or in response to a valid request from a law enforcement agency).
Security and storage: AAN will use reasonable precautions to protect your personal information and to store it securely. Our website has a secure SSL certificate, a global standard security technology that enables encrypted communication between the web browser and the web server.
Caveats: AAN is registered in Germany and Afghanistan. Its servers are located in Orem, Utah, in the United States of America and it has a global readership. This means that we transfer information internationally. However, AAN seeks to ensure that the above privacy rules are constantly applied, with a caveat that transmission of information via the internet is never completely secure and we may need to comply with national laws outside the EU that demand lesser protection.
In the unlikely event that the AAN website and programme model is handed over to another organisation (including in the event of any reorganisation, dissolution, spin-off, or liquidation), we reserve the right to transfer your personal information to the relevant acquirer.
Please note that should you want to access the personal data that you have submitted to us, update your email or change your preferences you can always do so by contacting us at [email protected]. Should you want to unsubscribe from the AAN email you can do it through contacting [email protected].
Our policy may change in the future. We encourage you to review this page periodically to understand our policy regarding our collection and use of your personal information. Each revision will be clearly shown by updating this policy’s revision dates (see below).
Should you have any questions or comments regarding this policy, please contact [email protected].
