Student Internship/Voluntary Worker Opportunity

This is a great opportunity for Communication and Journalism students to gain experience of social media, podcasting and communications. The purpose of the student internship is to assist the Afghanistan Analysts Network (AAN) with the implementation of its communication and social media strategy, as well as a new podcast. 

Since AAN is a multi-lingual research organisation, candidates fluent in written and spoken English, as well as Dari or Pashto, will be given priority (trilingual candidates strongly encouraged!) 

This is an unpaid position, so it would be ideal for students seeking voluntary work experience and extra academic credits. Time commitments can be discussed, but the minimum requirement is 100 working hours over four months. It is a home-based internship. 

Key purpose of the role

  • Support the implementation of the social media and communications strategy;
  • Assist with development of content for multiple social media platforms, including visual marketing; 
  • Assist with preparing audio content for podcast; 
  • Support regular maintenance of AAN’s social media with text, audio and visual content;
  • Support audience engagement on social media platforms;
  • Support monitoring of engagement on multiple social media platforms; 
  • Support online events as required. 

Education and skills

  • Excellent written and spoken English is essential; 
  • Excellent written and spoken Dari or Pashto is preferable;
  • Ongoing Communication and or Journalism study is preferable;
  • Content creation experience preferable, including familiarity with creative digital tools;   
  • Experience in podcast production is desirable; 
  • Experience in supporting events is desirable;
  • Experience in the use of social media platforms and best practices;
  • Understanding of Afghan social media landscape is desirable. 

Internship conditions

  • This is an unpaid internship 
  • The intern is expected to use his/hers own computer 
  • The intern is expected to have a good WIFI connection 
  • AAN can offer extra academic credits
