rumours about_Afghanistan: is the name of a Berlin anti-deportation initiative, based on the title of a campaign the German Embassy launched last year via social media and large-format posters in Kabul and Mazar-e Sharif in order to persuade Afghans not to leave their country and come to Germany.

Two days before Germany’s planned eight deportation flight to Afghanistan since December 2016, the campaign (here on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rumoursabout/) invites to a podium discussion about the security situation in Afghanistan, accompanied by Afghan snacks – therefore the title of the evening: Afghanistan Rumour Kitchen (Gerüchteküche, in German).
Where:
Berlin, S27
Hotel Bauhaus, Bildungsmanufaktur, Schlesische Str. 27
When:
4 December 2017, 7.00pm
On the podium:
- Dr. Michael Daxner (political scientist, Free University Berlin)
- Thomas Ruttig (co-director, Afghanistan Analysts Network)
- moderator: Nerges Azizi (student of political and social sciences, FU Berlin and Sciences Po Paris)
Entry fee:
None.
Lead questions for the podium discussion:
Is Afghanistan really as safe as Brazil (a quote of Boris Palmer, a Green German politician and mayor of Tübingen)? Are there safe regions in Afghanistan? Are civilians not the target of terror attacks (as the German government claims?
