A quote from AAN’s Thomas Ruttig, on the so-called Green Zone in Kabul, besides a few euphemistic remarks by diplomats:
The development of the green zone, including Nato’s military base, in the middle of a crowded city showed “sheer disrespect” for the security of local people, said Thomas Ruttig, co-director of Afghanistan Analysts Network, an independent think-tank.
[The original quote was longer, adding that it also was arrogance and a lack of foresight when military NATO installations were put in the middle of Kabul’s civilian population as, apparently, planners were unable to imagine that they might be attacked and then jeopardise civilians.]
