Quotes from AAN and AAN’s Thomas Ruttig in the article in the German (also English- and Arabic-language) Middle East magazine, about the first known Hazara/Shia Taleban district governor. (behind a paywall, unfortunately, and not (yet?) in the English version), pointing out that the appointment has already been done years ago, that the ‘governor’ dos not seem to reside in ‘his’ district (the former Mohaqeq ally had to flee) and that this barely would reflect a wider trend. Thomas Ruttig: “Among the Hazara, there is still overwhelming rejection of the Taleban and fear of them. Most Hazaras would not think about joining them in their lives.”:

Dann überwarf er sich aber mit Mohaqiq, schloss sich den Taiban an und musste nach Angaben von AAN aus dem Bezirk fliehen. (…)

Thomas Ruttig glaubt indes nicht, dass die Strategie vor Ort verfangen wird. »Unter den schiitischen Hazara herrscht nach wie vor große Ablehnung der Taliban und Angst vor ihnen. Die meisten Hazara würden im Leben nicht darauf kommen, sich den Taliban anzuschließen«, so der Analyst.
