No, no new mines discovered, but data from the first GoA reports to the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative: ‘The report reveals a reality that contrasts with the headlines: anemic sector contribution to public revenues and government challenges in overseeing oil, gas and mining sector payment.’ And it transpired that there are ‘approximately $5.7 million in unaccounted for payments that companies say they made to the government but the government did not report having received. These unresolved discrepancies represent almost 80 percent of the total value of government receipts for that year’.
