Afghanistan, after Syria, is the second largest country of origin among the refugees seeking protection in Germany. Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière has spoken about secure areas in Afghanistan during his recent visit to Kabul, into which rejected Afghan asylum seekers could be deported. A (non-public) situation report of the German Foreign Office, however, states that “deportations are hardly possible”.
In the media, there are contradictory reports about the situation on the ground. Afghan refugees are afraid to be deported (text of the organisers).
