24 November 2009, Berlin: Afghanistan conference of German NGOs

AAN admin < 1 min

“Mission impossible in the Hindukush? Taking stock of international Afghanistan policies” – a conference organised by VENRO, the umbrella of German developmental NGOs. AAN’s Martine van Bijlert will be one of the presenters.

The security situation of Afghanistan’s population has drastically deteriorated over the past years – despite the international communities engagement. Aid workers have increasingly become targets of attacks. Civilian reconstruction is progressing slowly. The Afghans, too, view the international militray mission increasingly sceptical. Aid organisation have been demanding a radical shift in strategy since a long time.

But how can this shift be accomplished? How can the new German government contribute? What is the assessment of the new US strategy? These and other issues will be discussed at the conference.
