Why Kunduz Fell

< 1 min

Long War Journal, 10 October 2016

This Long War Journal report on “Why Kunduz Fell” argues that the situation in Kunduz leading up to the fall of the provincial capital in 2015, in many ways mirrors the present state of the country as a whole. The article lists four AAN dispatches – one by Obaid Ali, two by Lola Cecchinel (see here and here), one by Bethany Matta – and one AAN report by Philip Münch in its citations and specifically quotes AAN’s Obaid Ali:

The militias looted houses, stole motorbikes, jewelry and money from both men and women, as well as taking wheat and sheep. Some people fled their houses. Wazir Khan, a resident of another village raided by the armed groups, said that members of the ALP took motorbikes, four vehicles, cash and numerous mobile phones.
