AAN’s Thomas Ruttig wrote an first analysis about the mounting reports that the signature of the US-Taleban agreement about troop withdrawal and anti-terrorism guarantees might be immanent and that the Taleban have agreed to a temporary ceasefire with the US to facilitate the agreement and offered a ‘reduction of violence’ to the Afghan government which the latter rejected (in German). He concludes that. although the Taleban offer to Kabul is a step forward, it is less then what it is supposed to look like: given that the US troops use the same bases and roads as the Afghan troops, the Taleban would not like to risk to harm any US soldier when attacking Afghan forces’ facilities.
