Here an extremely short quote of AAN’s Thomas Ruttig, taken from a January 2025 article published at VoA: that the Doha Agreement is “still considered valid.” It was, at least by the Taleban, at that point. In late February 2025, though, on the fifth anniversary of the agreement, Taleban spokesman made ambiguous remarks about it, saying, on one hand: “Now, the Emirate has its own sovereignty, and we are no longer operating based on the Doha Agreement but rather on the principles of our system. It was an agreement with the Americans that ended at that point.” This was interpreted by some as a declaration that the IEA does not feel bound by the agreement anymore.
On the other hand, the spokesman expressed expectations that the US fulfil its outstanding commitments from it, implying that the agreement remains valid.
We are not aware of any statement from the new Trump administration on this matter, although it seems it has not withdrawn from the Doha agreement.
