Three years of Taliban rule: Stability at high cost for Afghan girls

In a story about three years Taleban rule, AAN’s Thomas Ruttig is quoted on the international strategy:

“The West is at an impasse in dealing with the Taliban,” says Afghanistan expert Thomas Ruttig.

The Taliban have shown that Western isolation won’t force a change of course, he says.

Instead, governments should develop programmes that enable development cooperation and go beyond pure humanitarian aid, for example in the areas of irrigation management or climate change, according to the expert.

Any such efforts should involve Afghan experts, Ruttig stresses.
