While they are sometimes labeled nationalists, the Taliban are keen to brandish their Islamist credentials and have opposed all modern nationalist currents in Afghanistan and among the Pashtuns.
AAN has of course never claimed they are only nationalists, and we have labelled them at occasions national-Islamist (borrowing the term from the then often not-so-much-pro Moscow Romanian national-communists.)
