The transcript (in German) of a report about the Taleban’s rollback of women’s rights in Afghanistan in the prime news of Austria’s main public TV broadcaster with quotes from AAN’s Thomas Ruttig:

“After the experience with the university ban, one can no longer rule out that the Taliban will close all girls’ schools,” Thomas Ruttig from the Afghanistan Analysts Network think tank told dpa on Thursday. “That would be a one-time event, not just for Afghanistan.” The Taleban’s “systematic misogyny” looked like “out of this world”, even compared to other repressive Islamic states, Ruttig continued.

The Taliban are like drunk on their victory after taking power in the country last year. “Apparently they see themselves as the only truly Islamic country and don’t give a damn about opinions like those from Qatar.” Several states in the Arab world had also criticized the university ban, including Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and Turkey Saudi Arabia.
