In this article in one of Germany’s leading dailies discussing the German development minister’s announcement to suspend humanitarian aid for Afghanistan (in German), quotes AAN’s Thomas Ruttig as saying:
If the federal government and others are now also suspending funding for humanitarian measures, “they are questioning it in the long term,” criticizes Thomas Ruttig, co-founder of the Afghanistan Analysts Network. In his opinion, it would have been sufficient to support the NGO work’s temporary suspension and wait for the talks with the Taliban.
Indeed, the German government has not yet approved humanitarian aid money for 2023.
