The southern German local newspaper quotes AAN’s Thomas Ruttig on the security situation in Bamian, one of the provinces considered ‘safe’ for deportations by the German federal government, pointing out that it is insufficient to assess the situation in a certain area independent of its environment:
Im Interview mit der Süddeutschen Zeitung erklärte Thomas Ruttig vom „Afghanistan Analysts Network“: „Die Situation dort gehört in die Top 5 der intensivsten Konflikte weltweit.“ In der Provinz Bamiyan, oft als Musterbeispiel für „vergleichsweise Stabilität“ gepriesen, kontrollieren die Taliban alle von dort hinausführenden Straßen. „Da überlegen Sie sich mal, wie sicher Sie sich fühlen, wenn Sie ringsherum belagert werden.“
