Op-ed by Thomas Ruttig, with a balance of the German military engagement in Kunduz, in the Munich-based daily, one of the leading ones in Germany. It looks at the strong and, as it seems, irreversible Taleban province in the region and comes to the conclusion: “military mission not accomplished.” Presenting the Bundeswehr a development actor ‘in uniform’ was another strategic mistake. He also relates how the German decision to take over the US PRT there (and not the one in Ghazni, with responsibility for Paktia where Germany had implemented a – in the eyes of the local population – highly-successful integrated development project in the 1960/70s) was taken and a series of other German mistakes (in German).
