AAN’s Thomas Ruttig contributed an op-ed (in German) on the BSA Loya Jirga starting today in Kabul, summarising the last controversial pointsot be clarified between the Afghan and US sides, arguing that both sides are interested in geeting the agreement confimred by the delegates, the US because it wants to maintain a foothold both in Afghanistan and the region, with its three nuclear powers, and President Karzai because the ANSF need the annual USD 2bn pledged by Washington.
