AAN’s Thomas Ruttig looks at the (non-) reaction of the German government on media reports that a Taleban diplomat has factually taken over the Afghan embassy in Berlin, despite another diplomat – still an appointee of the Islamic Republic – officially in charge. Infact, he concludes, the German government has tacitly allowed the Taleban takeover, also of Afghan consulates, in order to facilitate its Afghanistan policy priority: direct deportations of rejected Afghan asylum seekers to Taleban-controlled Afghanistan, based on an (unpublished) bilateral agreement.
