In this guest article for the German daily, AAN’s Thomas Ruttig looks at the participation, arrest, killing and executions of Afghans after the January protests in Iran, including the latest execution – one day before – of 20 year-old Qaem Hosseini in Isfahan, accused by the regime of involvement in the ‘Alikhani Square incident’, where demonstrators had set fire to a police station and killed four pro-government Basiji militiamen and special forces members. Thomas also looks at the general situation of Afghans, anti-Afghan discrimination and racism, the expulsion of more than 3 million Afghans since 2023 but also pro-regime Afghans, and he quotes some rare Iranian voice defending the Afghan migrants (in German).
